top five places to visit in Sri Lanka

A historical conserved colonial town in southwest of Sri Lanka, listed on UNESCO World Heritage Site. Aside from its pretty walls, it has very interesting and colorful history plus a multi-ethnic and multi-religious ambiance. You can take the 2 hours train ride (Rs. 100 – Rs. 360) depending on the seat 1st to 3rd class from Colombo station. In Gale Fort, you can just walk and explore the area for FREE.

If you are looking for a quick serene escape, just twenty-minute tuktuk ride (Rs. 550 – Rs. 700) from Galle is an imperfectly perfect beach. Luckily I got the beach by myself, enjoyed the golden sand, refreshing sea breeze, palm trees and coconut juice.

Unawatuna is a coastal town in Galle district of Sri Lanka. Unawatuna is a major tourist attraction in Sri Lanka and famous for its beautiful beach and corals.

Be ready to chase sunset from a 660 ft high rock summit and starts a journey along with the monkeys.

Perfect sunset in an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka.

Listed on UNESCO World Heritage Site, a historical and archaeological set up time-warped me into the lost world – literally. A two to three-hour hike, opens 7am to 5:30pm with entrance fee of 30USD. Beware of so called “tour guides” as it’s not for free, explore by yourself and bring a bottled water.

If you want to see the best of both worlds of Sigiriya-Dambulla then Nuwara Eliya-Ella and also Adam’s Peak you can break your itinerary and stay in Kandy.  A lower hill country side destination, cultural district and one of the largest cities in Sri Lanka.

Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.

Never leave Sri Lanka without a cup of tea at Mackwood Tea Plantation, a huge estate with a Hollywood-kind of sign. The weather is amazing as it fits the free hot black tea from the Tea House. You can enter the museum for free and the plantation for your #instagramfeedgoals.

Mackwoods Labookellie Tea Centre, situated approximately 1500 meters above sea level in the heart of Labookellie Estate, one of the finest tea plantations in Sri Lanka, is today a popular stop in an international travellers itinerary providing an opportunity to experience Mackwoods Tea at its best in the salubrious hill country clime as well as providing an instructive glimpse of the manufacture of Ceylon Tea.

As the saying goes, you got to take the most scenic routes and Sri Lanka has it!
